Muscle strains, joint sprains & sports injuries
Hamstring strain, calf strains – can be treated with massage and stretching exercises and resolve in perhaps 3 – 5 sessions.
Joint sprains may require management advice at the various stages. Typically, exercises and specific joint mobilisation are used, with electrotherapy if necessary.
Case History
A 35 year old woman attended for treatment, after having a two year history of leg pain, associated with running. On examination she was found to have poor leg posture and associated muscle weakness. This meant that during running she had a faulty movement pattern with subsequent development of pain and injury.
She was shown some specific muscle strengthening exercises to build a good foundation for running and improve the poor leg posture. She required 3 sessions over a period of 4 – 5 weeks, after which the pain was no longer present, she was able to run comfortably and self manage the condition.
